BENEFITS OF COMPOST

What is Compost?

Compost is organic material that can be added to soil to help plants grow.

What is Composting?

Composting is a natural process in which any organic matter, such as food waste or grass clippings, is broken down by naturally occurring bacteria and fungi in the soil to form compost. Compost – a nutrient-rich soil amendment very similar to the soil itself. Composting can be done in just about any environment, from hobby gardens on apartments or estates, or in outdoor piles to office spaces where compostable material is collected and taken to an external composting facility. Did you know that you can easily compost in any area with our Aydınmaksan Wood Chippers  and Wood Chippers  machines special for your changing areas?

What Are the Fundamentals of Composting?

All composting requires three essential ingredients:

  • Brown – Contains material such as dead leaves, twigs and twigs.
    • Greens – Materials such as grass clippings, vegetable scraps, fruit scraps
    • Water – Having the right amount of water, greens and browns is essential for compost growth.

Why is AYDINMAKSAN Wood Chippers important for a natural solution to increase soil fertility?

Composting reduces pollution, reuses organic waste, reduces the cost of fertilizer and agricultural production inputs, and more importantly, returns nutrients necessary for food production to the soil. . Your compost pile should have an equal amount of brown to green. You must also replace layers of organic material made up of particles of different sizes. Brown materials provide carbon for your compost, green materials increase nitrogen, and finally, water provides moisture to help break down organic matter.

With Aydınmaksan Twig Wood Chippers s, you can easily compost all your materials that you want to be grinded, regardless of size and environment.

What Are Composted Materials?

What are the Benefits of Compost?

It enriches the soil, helps to retain moisture, suppresses plant diseases and pests.
• Reduces the need for chemical fertilizers.
• Promotes the production of beneficial bacteria and fungi that break down organic matter to form humus, a nutrient-rich material.
• Reduces methane emissions from landfills.

A solution to improve soil fertility

Composting reduces pollution, reuses organic waste, lowers the cost of fertilizer and agricultural production inputs, and more importantly, returns nutrients to the soil essential for food production.

Composting provides soil with nutrients. enriches it, which reduces the need for fertilizers and pesticides. Fertilizers and pesticides require fossil fuels for their production and transportation, and some are potentially harmful to our health.

Compost increases the soil’s ability to retain moisture, thereby reducing runoff and helping prevent erosion. And compost prevents and suppresses plant diseases and pests. Moist and healthy soil improves the workability of the soil.

Composting helps to retain carbon, that is, composting contributes to the removal of carbon from the atmosphere.

How Is Compost Made?

For a healthy compost, it is essential to maintain a balance of humidity and air. Therefore, you need to mix and aerate frequently between 3 days and a week. In order to mix the fertilizer easily, choose the place where you place it correctly, it will be comfortable to move around. With the help of a shovel, mix the outer parts of the compost pile inwards and the inner parts outwards. To ensure moisture balance, if the mixture dries out, you can wet it a little or add green material. If it is too watery, add brown material. A correct compost should have the consistency of a damp sponge.

You need time to make cold compost because it can take at least 6 months. This period may vary depending on climatic conditions, the type and amount of materials you use. For example, the composting process slows down in cold weather. You need to constantly add the green and brown materials you want to use for cold compost. Once the box is full, wait for it to compost. The trick is to cover them completely with a carbon-containing material such as wood shavings, straw, dry leaves, every time you add the ingredients. In this way, your compost will not get fly and you will prevent the formation of bad odor.

Hot compost is a quick method, but you may need a trial and error process for the right result. For this type of compost, you first need 1 cubic meter of space and a thermometer. Before you start composting, make sure all green and brown ingredients are finely chopped and on hand. Sprinkle a shovelful of leftover compost or soil at the bottom of the bucket. Then, stack the materials you have on top of each other in 10-15 cm thick layers, one layer of brown and one layer of green. Add accelerating materials such as rock dust, coal, and water in between.

Hot compost rises to 49-77 degrees for the first few days, then goes below 43 degrees. At this point, it is necessary to mix and add oxygen. When mixed, the temperature of the compost increases again and after a few days it drops below 43 degrees again. If the compost is not heated enough while making hot compost, the amount of nitrogen may be low. In this case, you can add green material. If it gets too hot, the nitrogen amount is too high. In this case, you can turn it more often and add carbon-containing material. At the end of a month, if you mix and wait about four times, you will see a dark colored compost of the consistency you want. The temperature of the compost is now below 29 degrees and it is ready for use after resting for two weeks.
